The Renaissance edifice of the former Dominican Monastery from the west side is practically glued to the Basilica of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Its massive walls, topped with round corners with bastions covered with helmets, make it look more like a castle than a place of silence and prayer.
The construction of the monastery lasted almost throughout the 17th century. Currently, the monastery is undergoing renovation works to restore the original appearance. In spite of this, there are already existing exhibition halls, the Museum of the Sejny Diocese and ethnographic museum.
