The Lisbon Zoo contains over 2,000 animals of 332 different species, and the park is 94,000 m². It is one of the few zoos in the world where you can see such a rare animal as the white tiger.
The Lisbon Zoo is about animal enclosures and many shows and other entertainments, all of which included in the visit price. Three times a day (two in winter) there is a show with dolphins and sea lions (which we highly recommend to visit), you can watch the feeding of sea lions and pelicans, twice a day there is a show with exotic birds in the open air, as well as a reptile show.
The zoo has a farm with pets and garden plants, and a reptile pavilion. Also, along the zoo's perimeter, there is a cable car, which offers a view not only of all the pavilions of the zoo but also of the city. And, of course, a miniature train runs around the territory for young visitors.
Zoo history
The Lisbon Zoo is over 130 years old. It is one of the oldest zoos in Europe and the first on the Iberian (Iberian) Peninsula. The first enclosures with animals appeared in Lisbon in 1884 in the São Sebastião da Pedreira Park and provided 1127 animals and many plant species. Since then, the zoo has gone through two moves. The first was in 1894 in the park where the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian now located. The second took place in 1905 when the zoo finally moved to the Quinta das Laranjeiras park (Sete Rios district), where it remains to this day.
