This imposing 5 km long beach stretches from the western side of the mouth of the Ribeira de Bensafrim, marked by a breakwater, to the mouth of the Ribeira de Odiáxere, which together with the Ria de Alvor forms a picturesque lagoon.

There are three beaches (no boundaries are marked): the closest to Lagos is Praia de São Roque (equipped, under the supervision of lifeguards) Meia Praia itself (or Praia de São Sebastião, has a Blue Flag and equipped areas) and overlooking the Praia do lagoon Vale da, Lama.

Dunes flank the entire length of Meia Praia with paved paths overgrown with shamrocks, daffodils and wheatgrass. Behind them, a railway line and a road run along the ocean, visible low-rise buildings.

The beach has a relaxed atmosphere with small, scattered bars and beachside cafes. Near them there are equipped places, it is possible to rent equipment for water sports, boat trips and organised fishing, and volleyball courts. The beach faces southeast; the generally calm waters can be slightly colder than the sheltered bays south of Lagos.
