The Sejny Towarzystwo Opieki nad Zabytkami (STOnZ) was founded in 2004, on the initiative of local historians and social workers interested in the protection of the Sejny cultural heritage. As a result of STOnZ's efforts in May 2005, after several months of renovations of the rooms of the historic Bishop's Palace, the Museum of the Sejny Region began its activities. Soon the post-Dominican monastery was opened to the public. These two events determined the main directions of the association's activities for the coming years. The Society is a continuator of the traditions and ideals guiding the pre-war Society for the Care of Monuments of the Past (founded on June 27, 1906).
