Chabot Museum

Since 1993, the museum has been occupying one of the most picturesque villas in Rotterdam. The project of the villa was worked out in 1938 by the architect Baas, who had previously collaborated for a long time with the well-known architectural bureau Brinkman and Van der Flygt. The most significant projects of the bureau were the van Nelle factory building, the Feyenord stadium and the Sonneveld house (see below). The villa was built in Art Nouveau style by order of the Craieweld family. Inside the house there is a lot of open and bright space, there is an exit to the garden, which, together with the Museum Park, forms a green oasis in the city center.
The museum's collection consists of items received from Hendrik Szabo and other artists. Taken together, they give the viewer an idea of ​​the art of the city and the country as a whole in the period between the two world wars. These are mainly works by Rotterdam artists, ethnographic exhibits, posters, documentary materials.
I will say a few words about the artist and sculptor Hendrik Szabo. He lived and worked in Rotterdam during the inter-war lull and became famous as a leading Dutch expressionist painter - he is put on a par with van Gogh. Hendrik Szabo's winter landscapes and lush sea are still mesmerizing today. The difficult period in which the artist had to live was also reflected in his work - in the portraits of refugees and prisoners.

How to get there
By walk: the walk from the central station will take 15 minutes.
From the central station, you can take trams: №7 (in the direction of Willemsplein) to the stop Museumpark, №4 (in the direction of Marconiplein) to the stop Eendrachtsplein.
By metro: to the Eendrachtsplein stop (lines A, B, C).
