The best archaeology museums are those that put you right on top of a dig, and Grenoble’s is one, with galleries overlooking the structure of a Gallo-Roman church built in the 6th century.

A major archaeological site (excavated from 1978 to 1995) located in one of the oldest districts of Grenoble, the Saint-Laurent Archaeological Museum offers you a journey through nearly two thousand years of history.

From the 4th century necropolis to the 19th century church, Saint-Laurent has gone through time preserving, as in a large open book, the added traces of history since the origins of Christianity.

The visitor plunges into the heart of a funerary and religious site famous for its 6th-7th century monument: the Saint-Oyand crypt.

The memory of this place and of those who lived there is staged using digital means that reinforce the evocative power of the remains, witnesses to the evolution of funerary practices, beliefs and mentalities.

Cross the Isère, almost twenty centuries of Grenoble's history await you!
