Spilberk Castle is standing on the top of the hill of the same name, the oldest sights of Brno. Spilberk Castle was built in the 13th century as a fortified royal residence and managed to withstand few sieges, and by the end of the 18th century, it turned into a dark dungeon for the enemies of the monarchy, known in Europe as the "Prison of the Nations".
In 1962, the Spilberk castle was a classic Czech national monument status.
On the territory of Spilberk, there are three central locations: a tower with an observation deck, casemates and a museum of the city of Brno.
In the museum, which occupies the west wing, you can see exhibitions. At exhibitions, you can get acquainted with the history of the fortress, the city and the visual arts, the architecture of Brno. Due to the scale and value of the collections, the Brno City Museum recognized as one of the most outstanding in the Czech Republic.
There are rooms for torture in the casemates, many cells for prisoners (stone "bags" and cages). It is interesting to see the kitchen preparing food for the prisoners - preserved all the utensils there.
The panorama of Brno opens up from the height of the observation tower, the picturesque castle park spreading from the ancient walls is visible. The park is burnt, with fountains, ponds and waterfalls, comfortable benches and even an accessible toilet.
