Plaça de Catalunya is not a real touristic attraction although it is one of the main hubs of transport and many come to visit itself. Here starts the famous Rambla and the Rambla de Catalunya with Passeig de Gracia in the opposite direction. Also a short walk from here off to Plaça de la Universitat and Plaça d’Urquinaona. Just aside the Rambla the pedestriant zone of Portal de l’Ángel leads you to the Cathedral passing by many shops.

For public transport the square is a major hub. Here you can take manybusses (e.g. the direct airport shuttle and the bus to Tibidabo), many metro lines (L1, L3, L6, L7) and the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC, urban railway).

Café Zürich, just in the building of FNAC, serves as a popular meeting point especially for newbies and tourists. In front of the cafe can be usually found a lot of people waiting for their appointment. Though you should not really have a coffee there since it is quite pricey. Just on the square you will find mobile traders selling ice cream and cold drinks. Sitting beside the fountain with an ice cream in summer sure is a good plan.

On the opposite side you will find the department store El Corte Ingles – of which Café in the highest floor you have a nice view on the Plaça.
