Inside the MACBA

The Museu d’Art Contemporani was built between 1991 and 1995. It takes up 153,923 ft² (14,300 m²) of floor space in total, which is divided into large bright white-painted spaces, where the various exhibitions are hung.

The MACBA collection features over 5,000 works of art, all of which were created from the 1950’s to the present day, including abstract works that are characteristic of the mid-twentieth century, art from the eighties and even more recent works of art.

For contemporary art fans

Like other contemporary art museums, MACBA can be incredibly interesting if you love abstract and minimalist art, but if you are not a fan of this type of art, we suggest visiting other of Barcelona’s numerous museums and art galleries.
