Themes that connect people worldwide

With the opening of the permanent exhibition Things That Matter in 2018, the Tropenmuseum has abandoned its geographical layout and shifts its focus to universal themes that connect people worldwide. Current social issues such as migration and identity play a prominent role in this. Engaged exhibitions such as the Afterlives of Slavery and Longing for Mecca, together with major crowd pullers such as Cool Japan, the many current public programs and the successful Tropenmuseum Junior ensure annually growing visitor numbers.

Tropenmuseum Junior

The Tropenmuseum Junior is the Tropenmuseum’s children’s museum. You step into another world when you enter the Tropenmuseum Junior.

It is renowned for its appealing museum concept (seeing, touching, experiencing and participating) and has the general objective of stimulating an open outlook on the world.
